    Windows 8 Logo Revealed

Unfortunately, in my opinion, Windows may have gone even further backwards in an attempt to align themselves with their competitors.

It’s already popped up in a couple of different colours, so I’m not sure which will be the primary use colour, but those one looks pretty close. A dark green one is floating around too which is probably best unseen.

However, certain elements really do annoy me – and they’re simple fixes. The orientation of the window symbol is the wrong way around. It’s facing away from the iconic text. And, it would have been nice to see a bit of perspective in the horizontal line.

It’s understandable that the logo has evolved into something a bit more simple.

The Windows 7 logo looks quite modern and has some nice logo traits.

With logo development and rebranding, it’s often said that it’s better to remove elements from the logo. Simplify it. Well, Microsoft have done that with Windows 8 which is understandable.

Anyway, it should be interesting to see how the logo is used – especially on their products. You’d imagine that it’ll be used in the same vein as Apple’s apple.

    Freestyle

A while ago I designed this for an art and design group I’m in called Evoke One. Unfortunately for me, it didn’t make the final cut for the exhibition. They’re a fantastic group to be involved with and it’s always challenging which I love.

    Beartucci

Nice workflow here by digital artist – mOsk. Just shows how much work has to be put into a photo manipulation sometimes!

I particularly like his lighting effects and reflections towards the end of production.

You can view the video below:

Website redesign: When is it time?

Time to spread some knowledge here with a CKGDBlog Advice Article. In this article I’ll specifically be talking about website redesign and knowing when is a good time to redesign your website. For some, this will be quite obvious, but for others, it might revolutionize your business.

Many businesses now know just how important a website is to their company. In many ways it’s becoming just as significant as the store or service itself. I want to look at three key aspects which will help you decide if and when it’s a good time to have your site redesigned. These are things I’ve tried to research myself through a bit of trial and error.

    1. Website numbers are falling.
So, your website isn’t the flavour of the month anymore. That’s going to come and go over time and you almost don’t expect it to be red hot all the time, but a steady decline unfortunately isn’t great news. Everyone wants their website to have more and more hits, new viewers and people who revisit the site over and over again. And, to have all of this, isn’t as easy as it seems. I keep track of my clients websites (and my own) using a tracker such as Google Analytics and other website features which allow me to see trends, sources of visitors and other valuable information for my clients. So, when the site is struggling by not having new sources especially (for my business), I know I have to make a change or two.

As the months pass from it’s previous redesign or build, it’s possible to tweak and try different marketing strategies to increase visitors. To continuously make your website known can only be a good thing, but when that doesn’t work, give your customers and potential customers a reason to visit. A website redesign and launch can be your websites busiest time. That opens up potential new customers and people who may have visited your website before but forgot it about it for whatever reason. It also allows the loyal viewers you may have to feel like they’re part of your journey too.

Quick Tip: Rotating Guides In Illustrator

    CKGD Blog Quick Tip
    Difficulty: Beginner – Intermediate

Here’s a nice tip for those using Illustrator and would like to rotate their guides a certain amount of degrees. It can be handy for logos and setting up different shapes so it’s a tip which will be useful to a lot of people, I reckon.

    Futuristic Modern Architecture

This architecture has the style of a Lamborghini Reventon and F15 fighter jet. So, no doubt, I really like this style. Interestingly enough, it’s supposed to be located in Rye, Victoria, Australia so it’s not too far from where I live! Might have to check it out one day.
